Again the City of Bridgeport and the Bridgeport Guardians, Inc. negotiated an agreement regarding
the remedy order. Even though it affected certain benefits that previously had been negotiated and won by the Union
(sole bargaining unit) during the collective bargaining process with the City, Local 1159 was not included
in these negotiations. This agreement was presented to the Court which accepted it on 03/12/09.
At this time Local 1159 is weighing its options about appealing this decisdion. See below for a copy of this order.
11/04/08 a status hearing was held regarding the remedy
order. At this hearing Atty Karen Lee Torre filed a motion to be included in the remedy proceedings. Atty Torre
is a private attorney initially hired by a group of Union members, and not the Union as a whole, who disputed the the
DB testing and subsequent grading of that exam.
Listed below is the proposed agreement worked out
between the Guardians and the City of Bridgeport. This agreement was agreed upon by both the Guardians and the City
of Bridgeport behind closed doors without input from Local 1159 and was presented in New Haven Federal Court on August
6,2008. This is not the final order as a court hearing will be held in Federal Court in New Haven on August 20th , 2008.
This proposed order to the remedy order was posted as numerous officers expressed their concerns regarding rumors that they
might have heard. The Union Executive Board wanted it's members to see what the order actually states instead
of just hearing rumors about its content.
